The fight is not over yet, says review committee head

THE convenor of the alliance of community groups that were critical of the LEP called the Planning Minister’s response “a good start”.

Alan Burrows headed up representatives from 26 community and environmental groups who joined together as the Shoalhaven LEP 2009 Review Group.

Although he was happy with the minister’s position, he said there were still a number of issues the community would like to see addressed.

“These include improper uses of land in rural areas, that would sterilise their use for future farming, and the heights of buildings,” he said.

“We’re not finished yet.”

He warned that in the next exhibition stage, Shoalhaven mayor Joanna Gash would find out how keen the community was to see it resolved.

He added that people were wary of Mrs Gash following a change of heart over a development application in Huskisson.

“But hopefully we’ll see better community consultation [over this],” he said.

“The community is not going away quietly.”
