The former Wigan Warrior, London Bronco and Parramatta Eel will lead Western’s charge to championship glory – last tasted in 2004.

On returning to Australia, Moran linked with Parkes Spacemen in 2009 and represented Western that season.

That same year he went on to represent Country firsts, and now as a coach, Moran will aim to mentor Western’s best senior talent to pursue higher honours.

Moran is not new to coaching.

He is the current coach of the Women’s Indigenous All-stars team, a side that he will coach again next year.

Moran will coach the Under 18 Spacemen next season, hoping to develop the next generation of Parkes’ stars.

Moran coached Under 20s when over in England and has been an unofficial assistant coach for many of his years as a player.

He believes that if he can get a full strength side on the field, Western will be more than competitive in tier one.

“Everyone has to make themselves available for this team,” Moran said.

“To achieve the best you must play against the best.

“If we can get everyone committed to playing for the Rams, we will have the skills and strength to be a force in the competition,” he said.

Western has a rich history in the competition, with an Amco Cup and seven top grade Country titles to the region’s name.

Moran is looking forward to the challenge of coaching the Rams.

“It is a great privilege to be named coach,” Moran said.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of bringing out the best from the good talent we have in Groups 11 and 10.

“I’ve been here for four years now and have been really impressed with the standard of play in the Western area.

“The Under 18 Rams have gone well the past couple of years but the seniors have not had the opportunity.

“Now that Western are back in tier one, it is a great chance for these guys to showcase their skills,” he said.

The current Group 11 Player of the Year is still undecided if he will line up for the Spacemen again in 2013.

Western will take on Central Coast at Cooma in round one on June 1.

Country Championships on June 1.

Parkes Spacemen’s Dennis Moran will coach the Western Rams for their first season back in tier one of the senior Country Championships. sub
