Zoe competing at NSW PSSA State Championships.Zoe Gavin was last week surprised with a letter from Alby Schultz informing her she had been awarded a $500 grant in recognition of her achievments and dedication to sport to which she has been recognised as a Local Sporting Champion.
This grant is available from the Australian Sports Commission that provides funding assistance to athletes from across Australia with expenses while competing at State or National level. This was applied for when Zoe was competing in the NSW PSSA State Cross Country Championships in July where she finished in the top half of the state.
It has been quite a year for Zoe having represented Grenfell Little Athletics in March in the 800m & 1500m also for her school at State level in both Cross Country and Athletics. In October she competed at the Wagga Little Athletics and won gold in the 800m & 1500m. Last month at Temora Carnival also winning both the 400m & 800m. And 2 weeks ago competed at the Little Athletics Zone Championships at Parkes winning the 800m, 1500m & 3000m which has qualified her for the Regional Championships to be held in Dubbo in February 2013.
This is a fine effort for such a determined athlete who has represented both her School and Town at consecutive State Championships for the past 4 years. Zoe’s dedication and the dedication of her coach Justina Holland is to be admired as they both spend many hours of their time to achieve these fine results.
Congratulations Zoe! We wish you all the best for many future competitions.
Keep your eye out for the next Schultz Hume Bulletin in which her name and photo will be published.
